New Global Health Promotion Department to be Featured in SOPHE’s Health Promotion Practice

WASHINGTON -- The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) Board of Trustees and the Editorial Board of its journal, Health Promotion Practice, are pleased to announce the launch of a new department, “Global Health Promotion.” The department will include case studies, symposia reports, interviews, original research papers, and other forms of inter-professional communication designed to bridge research and practice in global health promotion. Manuscripts that focus on linkages to practice, policy, and population concerns from a global standpoint are welcome.  Manuscripts from the Global Health Department will be featured twice per year, beginning with the May 2012 issue. To celebrate the launch of this new department, the entire May 2012 issue will be devoted to manuscripts focused on international health promotion.

The new journal department will be co-edited by health promotion experts with experience in international and global affairs.  Serving three-year terms each will be Robert Simmons, DrPH, MPH, MCHES, CMP, Director, Master of Public Health (MPH) Program, Jefferson School of Population Health, and Clinical Associate Professor, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA; and Jagdish Khubchandani, PhD, MPH, MBBS, Assistant Professor of Community Health Education and Faculty Fellow of Global Health Institute, Ball State University, Muncie, IN.

“We are delighted to have a dedicated focus to global health as part of Health Promotion Practice,” states Leonard Jack, Jr., PhD, MSc, journal Editor-in-Chief and Director for the Center for Minority Health, Health Disparities, Research and Education; Endowed Chair of Minority Health Disparities Research; and Professor, Division of Clinical and Administrative Services, College of Pharmacy, at Xavier University of Louisiana. “We look forward to the department’s contributions in fostering international communication, collaboration, and best practices for improved global health.” 

Launched in 2000, HPP publishes authoritative, peer-reviewed articles devoted to the practical application of health promotion and education and is one of two refereed SOPHE journals.  The new Global Health Department is a welcome and timely addition in SOPHE’s publications portfolio and reflects the increased importance of global communication in SOPHE’s strategic plan.
