Deadline for Nominations: July 31st of each calendar year

The Society for Public Health Education is accepting nominations for it’s Program Excellence Award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions by a program (not an agency) to the practice of health education. Award recipients must demonstrate systematic application of the following components:

1. Health education principles including provision of a planned, reinforcing series of educational experiences over time;
2. Involvement of the target population in planning and implementation; and
3. A well defined evaluation component.

Nomination Requirements

The nominated health education program must have been in existence for at least three years. Five to seven letters of support must be included in the nomination packet. These letters, along with other nomination materials, should document the program’s systematic application of health education principles, including the following:

1. Specified goals and objectives, including projected impact on risk factors, morbidity, and/or mortality;
2. Program design, methods, and activities consistent with the SOPHE Code of Ethics;
3. Involvement of the target population in planning, implementing, and evaluating activities;
4. Provision of a planned series of educational experiences over time;
5. Involvement of appropriate community organizations in program planning and implementation;
6. Linkage of program activities to policy advocacy or policy/environmental change;
7. A well-defined evaluation component whose results provide guidance for further program development; and
8. Evidence of management support for the program.

Note: Awards are recommended by the SOPHE Awards Committee and approved by the Board of Trustees.

Nominations and support letters are due in the SOPHE National Office by July 31st of each calendar year.
