The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) recognizes the burden of chronic disease in the U.S. has become an increasingly pervasive concern. The nation is in need of policy decision makers who are not only well informed on the impact that chronic disease rates have on the nation's economy, but in how they can use their position at the state level to support disease prevention and address health care issues. As an organization of public health education experts, SOPHE is compelled to assist state legislatures and other policy leaders by increasing their current knowledge around chronic disease risks and health inequities and the impact policy can have on those issues.

SOPHE's Chronic Disease State Policy website is dedicated to engaging policy makers on issues concerning chronic disease risks through the following ways:

1. Strengthening the capacity of SOPHE's national and local membership to educate policymakers on effective state programs and policies for chronic disease prevention and wellness
2. Addressing the status of state policies and providing state level policy makers and health officials with access to timely, Science-based information that addresses chronic disease risks and strategies for reduction of health disparities among specific populations
3. Improving communication from national partners and stakeholders representing policy, health, and the media on the need for effective state level policies addressing chronic disease among youth and adults
