Continuing Education Opportunities
SOPHE Emergency Preparedness and Response Webinars SOPHE launched the Emergency Preparedness and Response Webinar Series in the summer of 2007 in order to provide opportunities for health educators to enhance their knowledge and skills in emergency preparedness and response. These events have been approved for up to 1.5 continuing education contact hours (CECHs) each for certified health education specialists (CHES). SOPHE including its chapters, is a designated multiple event provider of CECHs by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. SOPHE's Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) Pan Flu Workshop SOPHE partnered with HHS to host the CDC's Office of Communications' Emergency Risk Communication Training for pandemic influenza to approximately 100 health educators and other health promotion specialists in Chicago, IL in September, 2007. Goals To disseminate training curricula and tools that will help public health communication professionals effectively prepare for and respond to public health emergencies. To introduce public health officials, both inside and outside CDC, to the crisis and emergency risk training curricula and tools developed by the CDC Office of Communication. To train communicators, both inside and outside CDC, to subsequently train public health professionals in how to systematically plan, develop, implement, and evaluate crisis and emergency risk communication activities.
