Provider competencies for the prevention & management of obesity

As one of the leading health organizations, SOPHE helped develop the Provider Competencies for the Prevention & Management of Obesity.

Dr. Cicily Hampton, SOPHE’s Senior Director of Health Science & Policy, was asked to participate in the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Provider Training and Education workgroup to develop these obesity competencies.

These competencies are an interdisciplinary approach to preventing and treating obesity using common language to reduce the stigma around obesity. It was critical that the voice of health education be included in the first-ever set of interdisciplinary educational competencies for the prevention and treatment of obesity that will now be used for accreditation standards, board certifications, and other educational standards.

SOPHE is proud to have undertaken this ground breaking work on behalf of ids members.
