CDCynergy Frequently Asked Questions
Training
Question: What is the process for getting a training in my area?
Answer: If someone in an area covered by any of the CDCynergy Trainers requests a training and they contact national SOPHE, we automatically send it to the Trainer to coordinate the details. If the requesting group contacts the Trainer directly, the Trainer will contact National SOPHE to coordinate additional details of CDs, promotion, and CHES credits. The requesting sponsoring organization(s) needs to: secure the training site, send out all training announcements and collect registrations, and manage all the logistics of hosting a training. (Trainers are able to provide some guidance and support in the planning process.)  The Trainer will work out the fees with the requesting sponsoring organization and provide the trainer and training material (with the help of National). National SOPHE will also provide CHES credits if anyone is interested.
Question: What if I am the only person from my agency to take the training, how can I get a training or who sponsors it then?
Answer: Contact the Trainer nearest you to discuss other options or upcoming trainings. There may be others in the same situation that you could collaborate with to set up a training. Contact Blakely Pomietto at National SOPHE to discuss other options to any other issues (202.408.9804).
Question: What if my area is not covered by a National CDCynergy Trainer for training?
Answer: If someone requests a training in a site that is not covered by a local Trainer, then the requesting organization will work with National SOPHE.  The requesting sponsoring organization(s) needs to: secure the training site, send out all training announcements and collect registrations, and manage all the logistics of hosting a training.  National SOPHE will work with the sponsoring agency to secure a training site and coordinate all the details, and will identify a CDCynergy Trainers to facilitate the training.  National SOPHE will work out the fees with the requesting sponsoring organization and provide the trainer, training material and CHES credits if anyone is interested.  National SOPHE will invoice the sponsoring agency for some expenses; others will be covered directly by the sponsoring agency.
Question: Is there still a possibility of offering a four-hour class?
Answer: Although the full-day training is recommended in order to maximize the experience for navigation and exercises, and has been approved for up to 5.0 Category I CHES, a 4-hour training is also available and approved for 3.5 Category I CHES.  Trainers are actively facilitating both the full-day and 4-hour versions of this interactive multimedia training throughout the nation.

Training Fees
Question: How much does a Training Cost?
Answer:

Total fees for each participant varies by a number of factors.  Average costs range from $25 to $100, depending on the sponsoring agency, training site, travel and training fees for the CDCynergy trainer, and total number of enrolled participants.

National SOPHE charges a minimum of $250 for each training that is coordinated, which covers the cost of CD-ROMs, training materials, technical assistance, and CHES credits.  Total fees for trainings can range between $1200 and $2500 depending on travel costs and training fees. If additional facility costs are required they will be added to the total cost of training.  Each training will cost a minimum of $250 for National fees.  Each Trainer will work with the sponsoring organization to determine overall costs for the training, making every attempt to keep expenses to a minimum.  The cost that each participant pays depends on the total enrolled participants and costs negotiated by the agency and Trainer. Contact your local Trainer or National SOPHE for more information.

Question: Do participants pay headquarters/National directly and does National then pay Trainers? Or do the Trainers handle the expenses and pay National the expected $250.00 fee?
Answer: CDCynergy Trainers are located in a variety of settings around the country.  As a rule of thumb, the sponsoring organization will be responsible for paying expenses incurred in the delivery of a training.  Trainers will work with both the sponsoring agency and National SOPHE to handle fees, billing, invoicing, whatever payment arrangements are appropriate for events, and the $250 fee to National for materials, technical assistance, CHES credits, etc.

CHES Credits
Question: How many continuing education contact hours are available for the CDCynergy Workshop?
Answer: National SOPHE has approved the full day 7-hour CDCynergy training for up to 5.0 Category I CHES. The number of CECH is based on a full one-day training, excluding introductions, breaks, and lunch. The 4-hour training is also offered for up to 3.5 Category I CHES, and excludes all breaks and introductions. Both trainings offer interactive multimedia instruction and activities.
Question: How many CHES hours will INSTRUCTORS obtain when they teach an 7-hour class for the first time?
Answer: Trainers are applicable for 5.0 Class I CHES credits for facilitating the CDCynergy Training. Please note: This can only be applied once, not each time they teach the training.
Question: How can CDCynergy workshop participants get continuing education contact hours for CHES?
Answer: (1) Sign-in on the CHES participant roster as well as sign-in on the attendance sheet.
(2) Complete the Evaluation Form and the Participant Record form and return it to the trainer at the end of the workshop.
(3) National SOPHE will mail a Certificate of Attendance to participants for CHES credit verification.

Question: Who is responsible for CEU's and submitting / approving an application for CHES for the CDCynergy workshop? Is National SOPHE the provider?
Answer: National SOPHE has already approved CDCynergy for up to 5.0 CECHs for a one-day training. CDCynergy workshops are considered a National SOPHE event, therefore National SOPHE is responsible for CHES CECHs.  Trainers need to make sure participants sign in, complete the Evaluations and the Participant Record, collect the paperwork, and forward documentation to National SOPHE.  We can document CHES credits for NCHEC.  No other parties involved in a CDCynergy workshop need to re-approve the training.

Cynergy Content
Question: How can I get copies of the Specialized Editions of CDCynergy?
Answer: The latest version of CDCynergy Basic now includes examples and resources for many additional content areas including, Cardiovascular Health, Diabetes, Immunization, General Health, and Micronutrients. However, if you are still interested in obtaining copies of the specialized CD-ROMs individually, you may find information at the Future of CDCynergy/Specialized Editions or by contacting the individual departments/offices within CDC. For more information please contact Varian Brandon of CDC at vfb0@cdc.gov.
Question: Can groups use the media spots in their local campaigns, or other resources in CDCynergy?
Answer:

Documents and Resources:  All documents in the CDCynergy program (i.e. PDFs) can be legally printed, copied in multiples, readily distributed, etc.  Documents linked to/from CDCynergy depend on the source.  If they are on CDC or other government web sites, then generally they can also be legally printed, copied in multiples, readily distributed, etc.  Resources on other non-government sites have to be handled on a case by case basis and generally by contacting the organization hosting the web site on which the resource is found.

Media Spots:  If the media spots are related to smoking, the CDC Office on Smoking and Health has a media campaign resource center - you can find it online at  http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/mcrc/index.htm.  If the resources are from another area, it is suggested that you contact the corresponding division, center, or office at CDC to ask them how to access the materials.  The spots and copies we see on the CD-ROM are not high enough in quality for broadcast, and posters and many of the other miscellaneous files in the media library do not enlarge well.  In addition, often times non-governmental parties have been involved in the development of a spot, in which case they may be copyright protected,  or there may be talent costs involved in using the materials.  Posters and a lot of the miscellaneous files in the media library don't enlarge well at all, so try to discourage people from using them as they are in CDCynergy.  If participants really want to use these media resources, Interested parties need to contact CDC to track down the office/division that "owns" the particular piece of media, or contact Blakely Pomietto at National SOPHE (who will contact CDC directly).

Question: Do we know if CDC will be requiring use of CDCynergy for grant proposals in the near future?
Answer: No, we cannot confirm this although the possibility has been discussed.
Question: What if I can't participate in the training or I just want to purchase the CD-ROM? How can I get a CD-ROM?
Answer: Hands-on training is the preferred and most desirable delivery of CDCynergy, as it teaches users to maximize their use of CDCynergy’s built in resources and features, and to unlock the full potential of the tool.  However, we cannot possibly saturate everyone with training.  In this case, though less desirable, we do offer the CDCynergy CD-ROM for purchase on its own.  CD-ROMs can be purchased for $20.00 per copy (price includes shipping and handling).  See Order CDCynergy (pdf file).
Question: Will Cynergy run on MacIntosh laptops?
Answer: No
