welcomes its newest chapter
Minnesota joins the growing list of chapters

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Minnesota is the newest affiliated chapter of the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE). The 67-year old organization represents more than 4,000 health education specialists in 20 chapters in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

As a SOPHE chapter, Minnesota will provide leadership and support for public health educators to promote health, prevent disease, and advocate for sound health policies for communities in Minnesota.

To attain this goal, the chapter will provide opportunities for professional development, serve as a resource for current, reliable, and credible health information and promote best health education practice for our chapter members and communities.

Chapters are critical to SOPHE’s work, providing a local networking arena and ample professional development opportunities in the form of conferences and continuing education events. As the only professional association focused solely on health education, SOPHE’s Chapters are also critical to the organization’s advocacy efforts, at the local, state, and federal level.

The Minnesota SOPHE chapter currently has a number of members contributing to health education in a variety of worksite settings including public health departments, universities, and corporations.

“SOPHE welcomes the Minnesota SOPHE chapter and its distinguished community and school practitioners, university faculty and student members,” says David A. Birch, PhD, MCHES, SOPHE President. “We look forward to the chapter advocating for health education throughout the state and collaborating with National SOPHE to improve health education and promotion programs at the national level.”
