Keynote Address

Today’s complex health issues and interventions demand even more rigorous and innovative approaches to program evaluation. This presentation will explore challenges and recommendations to enhance precision when planning, implementing and evaluating health education and health promotion programs.

Michael Quinn Patton is an independent consultant with more than 40 years’ experience conducting applied research and program evaluations. An author of numerous books and journals on evaluation, he is a past president of the American Evaluation Association. Patton is founder and CEO of Utilization-Focused Evaluation, an independent organizational development, and program evaluation organization.

Igniting Change through Community Collaboration: Guiding Principles for Equity and Justice

Systematic, collaborative process can catalyze meaningful change in communities. However, not all community-level strategies focus on health equity and social justice. This panel will describe six principles that speak intentionally about shifting power imbalances to leave the power in the hands of community residents with necessary supports.

2018 Elizabeth Fries Health Education Award Winner and Lecture

Dr. James F. Sallis, Distinguished Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health at the University of California, San Diego, will receive the 2018 Elizabeth Fries Health Education Award for his outstanding research in physical activity and translational research.  The Elizabeth Fries Health Education Award recognizes a health educator who has made a substantial contribution to advancing the field of health education or health promotion through research, program development or program delivery.
