New members elected to SOPHE’s 2021-2022 Board of Trustees

Washington, D.C. – January 4, 2021 – The Society for Public Health Education, Inc. (SOPHE) congratulates eight members elected to the SOPHE 2021-2022 Board of Trustees.

The new board members will be inducted and begin their terms of office on April 6, 2021 during the all-member business meeting (5:30-6:45 pm ET) during the SOPHE 2021dx Annual Conference. They will join 12 other board members, including four members elected by the House of Delegates, who in total comprise SOPHE’s governing body.

“I look forward to supporting these outstanding new board members and the prospects for a brighter 2021,” says SOPHE President Cam Escoffery, PhD, MPH, CHES®. “These new voices will strengthen SOPHE’s service to its members and help achieve its mission of providing global leadership to the profession of health education and health promotion and to promote the health of society.”

Amy Thompson, PhD, CHES®, vice-provost of Academic Affairs and professor of Public Health at the University of Toledo, will serve a three-year term as president-elect, president and immediate past president from April 2021 through spring 2024.

Two-year term positions:

Treasurer: William H. Potts-Datema, DrPH, MS, MCHES®, adjunct professor at Southern Connecticut State University; self-employed health education specialist; retired branch chief of the Division of Adolescent and School Health, CDC.

Trustee, 2022 Annual Conference: Kirsten Rodgers, EdD, MSPH, MCHES®, principal, Proximate Learning, LLC.

Trustee, Advocacy & Resolutions: Sabrina Tindal Cherry, DrPH, MSPH, MTS, assistant professor, Public Health, University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Trustee, Professional Development & Continuing Education: Ninfa Peña-Purcell, PhD, MCHES®, professor, Texas A&M Center on Population Health and Aging.

Trustee, Publications: Lisa Lieberman, PhD, CHES®, professor and chair, Department of Public Health, Montclair State University.

Trustee, Strategic Development: Cherylee Sherry, MPH, MCHES®, Healthy Systems Supervisor, Minnesota Department of Health

One-year term position:

Trustee, Student: Janae Alexander, MPH, doctoral health education student, Health Education at Texas A&M University.

The following trustees also have been elected by SOPHE’s House of Delegates to serve one-year terms on the SOPHE board:
