Hispanic or Latino Transportation and Land Use Thought Leaders Perspectives in Transportation, Public Health, and Land Use” is the result of a collaboration between SOPHE and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity.

Through an environmental scan and interviews with Hispanic & Latino thought leaders, this comprehensive report summarizes barriers and racial inequities on routes to destinations that influence nutrition and physical activity outcomes of Hispanic and Latino individuals and communities.

The project had three goals:

  1. Increase the knowledge, awareness, and understanding of Hispanic or Latino transportation and land use thought leaders lived and professional experience around barriers in Hispanic or Latino communities to walking and other forms of community-based physical activity.
  2. Synthesize reported experiences of these Hispanic or Latino thought leaders related to barriers and inequities to walking and community-based physical activity as well as possible recommendations to improve activity-friendly routes to everyday destinations.
  3. Identify possible policy, systems, and environmental approaches to promote walking and other forms of community-based physical activity.
