SOPHE Denounces Violence and Assault on Congress and our Nation’s Capital

January 7 – 2021
“SOPHE denounces and condemns yesterday’s violence and assault on our democracy in the nation’s capital. The attack on our members of Congress and destruction of property during one of the most sacred times under our Constitution is unjustified under any circumstances. We are saddened for those who lost their lives or were injured during the horrific incident.

It is important to note that “our words matter.” Allowing misinformation to spread led to an attempt to shut down one of our branches of government. SOPHE calls on its members, chapters, policymakers, and all citizens to correct misinformation at all levels and not be complicit bystanders. We call on one another to act with respect and forbearance, regardless of party affiliation, and support the orderly transition of power in the ensuing days.

SOPHE stands ready to work with the incoming Biden Administration and all members of the 117th Congress to restore peace, prosperity and progress in pursuing social justice for our nation.”

Sincerely,
Cam Escoffery, PhD. MPH, CHES®, SOPHE President
Deborah Fortune, PhD, SOPHE President-Elect
Elaine Auld, MPH, SOPHE Chief Executive Officer
