Webinar: Lessons learned from a community-based participatory research mental health promotion program for American Indian Youth

American Indian youth have the highest rates of suicide among racial/ethnic minority groups in the U.S. A recent article from Health Promotion Practice describes how a community-based participatory research model was used to implement a mental health promotion program for youth in Robeson County, North Carolina, the traditional homeland of the Lumbee tribe.

In this webinar, presenters will describe the culturally tailored suicide prevention program, “Lumbee Rite of Passage.” Developed with guidance from a community advisory board that was formed for the project, the “Lumbee Rite of Passage” examined the mental health needs of Lumbee youth, assessed perceptions of existing mental health services, and launched a six-month, tribally run cultural enrichment program.
